BETRAYAL OF THE SOUL

One man’s psychological battle against himself

Expected publication - Late Spring/Early Summer 2026

‘Betrayal of the Soul’ examines how one person’s behavioural values and sense of purpose disintegrate as former journalist, Johnny Tinder, pushes himself through intense periods of self-analysis. It is the epitome of being one's own worst enemy. Indeed, Johnny fights his own personal battle against a life of emotional turmoil, existential struggle, regretful misdemeanours, and long-term despair. As with many, his life had been mapped out for him by negative events that occurred during childhood and through his adolescent years.

Now in his late 40s, Johnny finally realises it’s time to reflect, step back, and figure out how to change his ways. He feels, perhaps unwisely, that repairing a long-lost relationship with his old flame, Catherine, whom he still considers to be the love of his life, might help. However, he has his doubts and fears she will almost certainly reject him if he tries to re-enter her life after so many years apart. In a harrowing twist, poor Johnny faces a situation far, far worse than that!

Protagonist, Johnny Tinder, with barmaid, and, right, his nemesis, DI Sue Grendel.
