Mal Foster - Life Stories No.16
Beth Orton - Central Reservation
Fast forward twelve years to May 2000: My personal circumstances had changed dramatically, and I suddenly found myself as a single dad, bringing up a ten-year-old son with no practical or financial support. It was a tough time but the music and at times, the wine kept me going.
I hadn’t really discovered much in the way of ‘new’ music during those past twelve years, until one day, I walked into a record shop in Wardour Street, London when they were playing Beth Orton’s ‘Central Reservation’ on their in-store hi-fi system. For some reason, the song grabbed my immediate attention and after speaking with a young staff member, I purchased the CD. The album is full of great songs and I continued to play it at home on my patio during the rest of that very, difficult summer. Hear ‘Central Reservation’ by Beth Orton on YOUTUBE
